2006 Tennis Programs and Events

In its fifth year, the BCTA expanded its low-cost tennis programs (with an accent on fun and fitness) from seven to ten sites throughout Upper and Lower Bucks County. The BCTA works in conjunction with several township park and recreation departments as well as private community sites looking to provide tennis to its residents.

BCTA instructors teach the games-approach to tennis to ensure that participants have an opportunity to quickly learn basic tennis skills in a relaxed environment. In 2006, the BCTA also laid the groundwork for organizing community junior team tennis and adult flex-time tennis as a means of offering low-key competition that emphasizes the social aspect of tennis.

In addition to conducting community tennis programs, in 2006 BCTA:

  • hosted an instructors’ workshop open and free to anyone interested in attending.
  • participated in Community Day events at both Middletown and Warrington.
  • promoted the sport of tennis via advertisements, press releases and its web site.
  • sponsored a USTA-sanctioned tournament for junior players.
  • conducted fundraising to help support its mission.
  • donated US Open tickets to Bucks County Community College fundraiser.
  • offered a free scholarship to Academic Directions.

Although the BCTA does not have a tennis facility of its own, it remains an important Tennis Welcome Center, serving as a friendly and informative "Welcome to Tennis" to many county and surroudning area residents.

In sum, the BCTA continues to work toward providing low-cost tennis opportunities and tennis information to get Bucks County residents quickly and easily into the great game of tennis.

As always, the BCTA board thanks all those who have contributed to its success.
