2007 Tennis Program and Events

In just its sixth year, the BCTA expanded its low-cost tennis programs (with an accent on fun and fitness) to 18 sites throughout Upper and Lower Bucks County. By partnering with local townships and private businesses, the BCTA made tennis accessible to more than 300 youth and adults.

The nonprofit community tennis association also provided free tennis programs for under-privileged children in conjunction with Neighborhood First in Bristol; Reaching at Problems in Chalfont; three Latino Alliance youth camps in Warrington, Warminster and Bristol; and the Youth Detention Center in Doylestown.

BCTA coaches use the games-approach to tennis to ensure that participants have an opportunity to quickly learn basic tennis skills and play the game in a relaxed, fun environment.

In July, the first annual BCTA Junior Team Tennis Challenge Cup was held at Lower Southampton Township’s tennis courts at the Dolphin Swim Club. Participants enjoyed round-robin team tennis, pizza and a swim afterward—courtesy of the neighboring Sportsplex.

In addition to conducting community tennis programs, in 2007 BCTA:

  • hosted a coach development workshop open and free to anyone interested in attending.
  • sponsored and coordinated the grand re-opening of the Core Creek Park Tennis Courts.
  • promoted the sport of tennis via advertisements, press releases and its Web site.
  • sponsored a USTA-sanctioned tournament for junior players.
  • sponsored a pilot innovative USTA-sanctioned tournament for junior players that was the first of its kind in the USTA Middle States section.
  • conducted fundraising to help support its mission.

In addition to providing low-cost tennis opportunities in various communities, the BCTA offers a friendly and informative "Welcome to Tennis," providing contact information about commercial tennis facilities and USTA programs in Bucks County.

As always, the BCTA board thanks all--coaches, volunteers, donors--who have contributed to its success.
