More than 50 youths participated in the Team Tennis Challenge of the final five-week season of BCTA’s Learn, Practice & Play program. The fun competition brings young tennis players from various public park sites throughout Bucks County together. This 2011 season-ending event was held Saturday at Core Creek Park in Langhorne

Registrants noted that the windy conditions were really going to make it challenging to play tennis. Yes, but the wind did not interfere with the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and most importantly fun.

After more than one hour of round-robin match play, medal standings emerged in the two age categories: Little Aces (ages 7 to 9) and Juniors (ages 10 to 13).

Little Aces
Gold—Newtown
Silver—Frosty Hollow
Bronze (tie)—Doylestown/Warminster combined team and Core Creek/Middletown combined team

Juniors
Gold—Core Creek
Silver—Bensalem/Doylestown combined team
Bronze—Frosty Hollow/Middletown/Newtown/Warrington combined team

Following the matches, participants joined in group tennis games and then lined up for the much-anticipated “Hit for Prizes.”

Many thanks to the parent volunteers who served as score keepers and “net sitters,” keeping the portable nets grounded in the wind.

Also, a big thank you to the BCTA coaches who work with the youths. Coaches Lori Benson, Felissa Dunn, Bob Foster, Stephen Parker, Kay Rossi, Carol White, Cristina Yanik helped keep players focused and match play on schedule this past Saturday.
